A genuine community pub with a rich heritage
Established in 1814, The Sportsman has been at the heart of Preston Village, North Shields, for over 200 years. Originally welcoming miners from the nearby Preston Colliery, its name pays tribute to the famous Preston Races that were once held in the village.
Today, The Sportsman remains one of the few surviving landmarks that reflects Preston Village's rich heritage. Recent sympathetic refurbishments have carefully preserved the character and charm of this historic building while creating a comfortable space for everyone to enjoy.
Whether you're joining us for a freshly prepared meal, a perfectly kept cask ale, a glass of fine wine, or one of our premium lagers or ciders, you can expect great service and a friendly welcome every time. Serving food seven days a week, we're proud to continue our long tradition as the heart of the local community.
